I am only about half way through this book but I am a little disappointed in it because Mr. Zehner discounts capitalism so much. I am not sure how any of this gets implemented in the US without the use of force.
I tend to think that the crony capitalism we have had is just as bad as the welfare state. I do NOT believe that government can do everything. I believe there is a God who will make everything right in the end. Zehner has no faith in the hereafter.
And he has a lot of faith that CO2 causes (is causing) Global warming. I believe that science is not settled. The latest cold snap across the country makes a lot of us wonder what is going on. Everything seems to cause global warming–even when it gets really, really cold.
I did like the ideas expressed in the book that most “green energy” things are just ploys to get US citizens to buy more things and do not really help the over all use of energy.
But I am not sure what the best answer is. Cheap, affordable energy has been an idea since Ayn Rand wrote her book many, many years ago and before. It seems to me that everything right now is going the opposite direction to make energy more and more expensive for everyday Americans.
To me, it doesn’t make a lot of sense not to use our natural resources. And, if some technological improvements come along, people will use them as them have in the past. If someone or some company gets rich because of that, it is OK with me. I just hope and pray the government doesn’t come along and force us to “change”.
